Personally appeared John Talley aged sixty years who being duly sworn saith that he is one of the persons of pensioners provided for under the act of Congress of the late session; and that he served in the continental line under Col. William Washington in the regiment of light dragoons in the command of Capt. Parson and that he enlisted to serve during the war and he continued to serve during the war, and he was discharged at Richmond in Virginia the spring campaign sometime in the year eighteen hundred and eighty three [1783?] as the deponent believes from the best of his recollection. He has no education and that he received a discharge from one Capt. Barnett which discharge has been lost since last war commenced so that he cannot now produce it or recollect its contents, and that he is in such reduced circumstances and is aged by 60 years & infirm that he needs the assistance of the general government for a support.

John Talley late of the State of Tennessee and in the county of Perry who served in the continental line of the army of the Revolution, was placed on the pension list of the State of Georgia agreeable to the Act of the 18th of March 1818. He has been continued on the pension list since the 4th day of March 1818. He was in the service of the Continental line of the army of the Revolution and during the war, and continued until terminated.

The data which follow were taken from papers on file in the pension claim, S.38426, based on the military service of John Talley or Tally, the soldier of that name that a found in the Revolutionary War records of this office. The personal signature appeared in the surname is written both ways.
John Talley enlisted sometime in 1781, place not given, served as private in the company of Captain Parsons, of Virginia in Colonel William Washington’s regiment of Light Dragoons, was in service at Yorktown and was discharged after peace was declared in 1783.
John Talley was allowed pension on his application executed October 16, 1819, at which time he was living in Montgomery County, Georgia, by the act of March 18, 1818. The pension was suspended and restored by the Secretary of War (stopped from the roll and because of his act), John Talley’s pension was discontinued while living in Perry County, Tennessee. John Talley applied for pension June 23, 1829, under the Act of May 15, 1828, and his claim was allowed.
John Talley was living in Perry County, Tennessee, in 1830 and was then about 70 years of age.
There are no data on file relative to the family of this soldier.
